Environmental footprint |
|
The environmental footprint of a kitepower system is very low even in comparison with conventional wind turbines.

The reasons are:
-
Very low weight of the complete system, because no tower and only small and lightweight foundation is needed. This means, that only small amounts of steel and concrete are needed, to build the system.
-
Low visual impact, because the kites can fly very high, so that they can hardly be seen from the ground.
-
Compared to the rotor blades of conventional wind turbines, the airborne components of a kite power systems are soft and move at low velocity. Because of this, they do not harm birds and in fact no incident of a harmful collision has been observed during the two years of testinng the system every three weeks.
-
Because the weight of the generator is irrelevant, using rare-earth magnets for the generator is not needed.
