Many people assume that the operational safety is one of the critical aspects of kite power systems. Of the many aspects of safety, most important are the interaction with traffic in the air and on the ground and the behaviour in extreme weather conditions, such as thunderstorm or lighning.
Interaction with air traffic
The control system of the kite power system, including its sensor module, can ensure that an operational envelope is maintained at all times. At our flight tests, on the former naval airbase of Valkenburg, approximately 40 km from Amsterdam airport, we are not exceeding 300 m altitude during testing to respect the flight traffic from and to Amsterdam airport.
